Keeping you up-to-date on all things Healthcare
Current Event #1
*Obamacare makes it more difficult to buy insurance year round.
Up until now Americans have always had the luxury of being able to buy health care coverage on the spot. It was a simple process that only required a little bit of their time. But since the recent implementation of the Affordable Care Act, this has now become a thing of the past. Citizens who did not already have a health insurance plan and did not sign up for health care durning the government’s open enrollment will find it nearly impossible to get insured for the year of 2014. This poses a huge problem considering the next open enrollment is not until November of 2015. Resulting in millions of Americans being uninsured for and entire year. Leaving them unable to pay for their medical bills if they were to fall ill. There might still be hope for those who missed the deadline if they act fast and also depending on the state in which they live. The government marketplace and some companies have extended their sign-up dates until a later time. In doing this they hope they are helping those who may have met difficulties when signing up for the week before the dead line. After these extensions have met their set dead line, eligibility for health care will only be guaranteed to those who experience a life changing event. This is just one of the many little-noted consequence of President Obama's health care overhaul, which requires nearly all Americans to be insured or pay a fine and requires insurers to accept people with health problems.

Current Event #2
* Five things polling tells us about Obamacare.
The 2010 Affordable Care Act had more polls taken to gage the public’s opinion than any other piece of legislation in years. When experts pieced together the data collected, they found 5 consistent trends. The first trend; Obama care remains unpopular. The amount of Americans who disapprove of healthcare greatly out number the ones who do. Obama care has been unpopular with a large portion of the public since it was proposed by obama in the 2008 campaign elections. The second trend; Unpopularity doesn't equal support for repeal. Even though Americans are currently unhappy with the affordable healthcare act. They also do not want to rid themselves completely of the currently existing plan. Polls showed that most believed that congress should work on making improvements to the affordable Care act. The third trend; Some parts of the law are popular. Americans may dislike the affordable Care act as a whole, but there are sections they do agree with. The fourth trend; voter intensity over the law benefits the GOP. The GOP took back control over the house when the affordable Care act was passed in November. Resulting in democrats losing some seats in the senate, reducing their majority. The fifth trend; Health care fatigue. The public is sick of hearing about healthcare. In the Kaiser study 53% said congress has more important issues to deal with. Clearly the topic of health care has been at the center of the political debate for quite some time now. The polling of the American publics opinion on this is issue is extremely crucial. Understanding the publics view on healthcare is beneficial in determining the direction of the national agenda in up coming years.
